As part of its typically massive presence at SEMA, Chevrolet is bringing no fewer than four Camaro concepts to this year’s show. Some are simply styling exercises; others are for more serious track work.
2012 Chevrolet Camaro Synergy Series Concept
A coupe styling and accessory counterpart to the Red Zone is the Synergy Series Concept that also explores some unique treatments inside and out while providing the basis for a possible future option package. In place of the standard RS or SS badging, the Synergy forgoes that identification in favor of black strips on the hood and decklid along with mail-slot decals that feature red line inserts on the fenders. Painted in a Silver Ice exterior color, the car also features a body-color grille.

Like the convertible, the car rides on 21-in. wheels and is lowered with a Pedders suspension kit. In addition, the car sports red Brembo brake calipers and a Hurst short-throw shifter. A polished strut tower brace and an SS-inspired hood liner are found underhood.
The cabin is trimmed out in black leather with red accent stitching on the seats, doors, console, steering wheel and shifter boot. In addition to a Silver Ice instrument panel, the Synergy Series car features SS logos with red stitching and an accessory aluminum pedal kit.
2012 Camaro 1LE Concept
More of a road racer at heart than a boulevard cruiser, the 2012 Camaro 1LE Concept borrows production components from the current SS and upcoming ZL1 to provide a track-ready package for the hardcore enthusiast. And it also looks cool.

The 1LE Concept is distinguished by its Victory red paint scheme with contrasting matte-black hood and hash marks on the fenders. Functional aero bits, including the front splitter, rocker panels and rear spoiler, along with the outside review mirrors, have a black satin finish.
Beneath the skin, the 1LE package features the latest sport suspension with magnetic ride control, electric power-assist steering, a 6-speed close-ratio manual gearbox and upgraded brakes that feature Brembo 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers. The front rotors are two-piece units—this brake package comes straight from the Chevy performance parts catalog.
The car rides on 20-in. lightweight aluminum wheels finished in satin black and shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric tires from the ZL1. A tower brace beneath the hood provides additional torsional rigidity, and the dual tailpipes feature a ZL1-style active exhaust flap. The car is also fitted with a rear diffuser.
2012 Camaro ZL1 Carbon Concept
While the mighty 2012 Camaro ZL1 with its 580 bhp is not slated to officially make its public debut until the Los Angeles Auto Show in mid-November, Chevy rolled out a special one-off concept at the SEMA show based on its successful Carbon option package first introduced on the Corvette.

The basic mechanical package remains unchanged, but the additional carbon-fiber accents and styling enhancements give the car a sinister look. The heavy use of these accents is offset by the car’s new Ashen Gray exterior paint, which is a new 2012 paint optional on all Camaros.
The most striking element is the exposed-weave carbon fiber “Mohawk” hood insert, which has a texture repeated inside on the door inserts and instrument panel. The rear spoiler is also made of carbon fiber, but sporting a stainless-steel wickerbill.
Lightweight stock 20-in. wheels are finished in satin black, and the ZL1 Carbon also features the 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Brembo brake upgrade, with two-piece front rotors. The car has all the good parts of the ZL1, including magnetic ride control, a short-throw shifter, twin exhaust with an active bypass flap, rear diffuser, a suede-trimmed flat-bottom steering wheel, a carbon-fiber trim shift knob and a Jet black leather interior.
Burnout in the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
2012 Chevrolet Camaro Red ZoneUnder the heading of a design and accessory showcase, the Camaro Red Zone uses the convertible body style to explore future exterior and interior treatments that could be offered soon. The Red Zone is painted in the new for 2012 Crystal Claret red offset by a heritage-inspired stripe package not yet available. The contrasting silver stripe across the nose of the Camaro is reminiscent of a similar graphic used on the first generation model way back in the 1960s. Other tweaks to the exterior include a body-color grille, windshield surround and side mirrors. The car’s suspension has been lowered using a factory-authorized Pedders kit, and 21-in. wheels add an aggressive touch.

Inside, the silver motif is carried over with the use of Silver Ice accents, inserts on the doors and instrument panel, plus seats upholstered in titanium-colored leather. The instrument panel is also fitted with a black, soft-touch insert, while the floormats sport silver Camaro logos. Under the hood, there’s an RS liner and a polished strut tower brace.
